Markou Olive Oil – Samos
The story of the multi-awarded Markou Olive oil starts in 1969 in the village of Koumeika in Samos where Mr. Markou founded a local traditional olive mill.
Today his children and grandchildren continue this legacy and although their olive mill is completely modernized to meet the highest quality, safety, and sustainability standards the quality of the products from the Markou family has stayed as high as ever throughout the years.
The Markou family produces an olive oil which is a blend of the local Throuba variety, which is indigenous and unique to the island of Samos, and the Koroneiki variety which also can be found on the island. This blend makes for an olive oil which is “sweeter” and thus can be enjoyed by all. The company also produces a single origin olive oil from the local Throuba variety, which holds a PGI certification proving the use of only indigenous to Samos Throuba olives.
Apart from olive oil the company also produces Kalamata olives from Samos preserved with the authentic recipes of the island and green soap which is a perfect example of the sustainability ethics of the company as it is produced from the by-products of the olive oil extraction procedure following a circular philosophy.
The Markou family has total control over their products from the field to their own olive mill and from there to the consumer. Therefore, they want you to know that they pay attention to every little detail that can bring their products closer to perfection!
