A month at Aegean Cargo Sailing – Part 1
August 10, 2021The sailing trip to Italy was completed in 35 days from September 11th to October 16th 2020, Lavrion-La Spezia-Lavrion. The cargo was a relatively light 300 kg of olive oil, wine, honey and other products in small quantities.
The most important conclusion is that for two consecutive years the round trip from Kefalonia to the Genoa bay (including Nice) was completed in less than 25 days which shows that it is possible to carry cargo by wind and sail in a dependable, reasonably short time. This year the round Kefalonia – La Spezia – Kefalonia lasted only 20 days, 22 September to 12 October despite sheltering from two different storms in Reggio and La Spezia. Another very heavy storm, Ianos, delayed us in Trizonia before sailing the Ionian Sea. The abbreviated trip calendar is attached.
We also had to embark crew three times because of the difficulty of participants with available time and fear of the sea trip conditions. In the end everything ran smoothly and the two different crews who finished their pledged service time expressed their appreciation for the rich “adventurous experience”.
