Ena Karo – Tinos
Today’s Meet Our Producers post does not focus on an edible product, although Ena Karo’s products are so beautiful and colourful that they surely look delicious!
Ena Karo produces handmade soaps and skin-care cosmetics in Tinos since 2016! The story behind Ena Karo shows us all how a passion can change our lives and how sometimes hardships nudge us to take a risk and dive into the lives we truly desire!
Georgia Zilou, who is behind the company, always had a passion for handmade soaps. It was not until the Greek economic crisis however, back in 2010, which led Mrs Zilou to leave
her steady job in the field of interior design in Athens, and she got involved with making handmade soaps.
During this time, she also left Athens for Tinos, following a long-life dream
to live away from Athens. There, slowly Ena Karo was brought to life!
The company produces 9 different handmade soaps and 3 extra special soaps during Christmas time, as well as other skin-care products like lip-balms or body oils and scrubs.
All products of Ena Karo are made using natural ingredients. Their aromas come from the use of
essential oils and their colours derive from using raw natural ingredients like paprika, cocoa or clay.
In general, Ena Karo is really intentional with its raw materials selection and there is great effort for working with small high-quality producers and when it’s possible local ones, like in the case of their herb suppliers. These efforts for pure ingredients are protected by
producing soaps using the cold process, during which the temperature does not rise above 60 °C and as a result all the benefits and nutrients of the raw materials are preserved.
Mrs Zilou wants consumers to know that the pay great attention to the raw materials used and that you will surely understand the difference Ena Karo’s products have compared
to industrial ones, as they are not simply cleaning products but they serve as skin therapy products, which are deeply beneficial for their skin.
