Today at the port of Volos, PELAGO played host to an unexpected guest — a Mediterranean monk seal. Curious and unhurried, the seal swam gracefully around the harbor, surfacing now and then to watch the boats and the people on the quay.
Mediterranean monk seals are among the rarest marine mammals in the world, and seeing one here was a reminder of the delicate beauty of the Aegean’s ecosystem — and of why it’s worth protecting.
