We had just set our sails west of Sigri, that small harbor village on the western tip of Lesvos, where the land feels ancient and the sea speaks softly—until it doesn’t.
Every time we pass this point, a certain feeling sets in. Not fear, but awareness. The rocks just outside Sigri have been there for centuries, unmoving, unapologetic. They’ve weathered empires, storms, and stories. And for many years now, the recked sailboat on the rock reminded us —gently but firmly—to keep our distance.
For sailors, these rocks are a landmark and a lesson. A line not to cross. A signal to look again at your course. And maybe, a metaphor. Because isn’t that what life is like too? We learn to read the signs, adjust our sails, and navigate with respect.
At Aegean Cargo Sailing, we move slowly, purposefully, by the power of wind. These waters are not just routes—they’re memories, guides, and teachers. The rocks out of Sigri have taught us caution, patience, and humility. They mark the boundary between carelessness and awareness.
We pass them now with gratitude. Another journey begins, another island calls. But the message stays with us:
Keep your eyes open. Steer with intention. Respect the sea—and the stones that hold its memory.
