Myrovolos – Chios

Myrovolos in Greek means “full of aromas” and that is exactly what this week’s producer brings to the table; unique aromas of herbal plants from the island of Chios.

The story of Argiro Koutsouradi, who is behind Myrovolos Organics, is truly a light of hope in the midst of the brain-drain phenomenon, where more and more educated young people leave their countries and places of origin for a better future, and which highly affects rural Greece and especially economically disadvantageous areas such as islands.

Mrs Koutsouradi, an agronomist, first fell in love with aromatic plants through an elective course during her studies. This love led her to complete a Master’s degree and even work abroad on aromatic plants. However, she always felt her island was calling her, where the wealth of its local aromatic varieties was undiscovered and unexplored by the locals. So, she returned and took advantage of some unexploited family land in the island in order to cultivate the aromatic plants and created her company Myrovolos Organics in an effort to gain the added value of her unique products

The products of Myrovolos are based on the  aromatic plant varieties  which are indigenous to the islands of Chios and all products are certified organic. Among the dried organic herbs and aromatics you can find common herbs such as oregano, sage, thyme, lavender, rosemary, mountain tea, chamomile, spearmint and bay leaves as well as less known ones such as dittany and pennyroyal. Myrovolos also produces rock samphire and caper preserved in brine, which are among the best sellers of the company. Myrovolos Organics’ products do not contain any preservatives, apart from the salt in the brine preserved products.

Mrs Koutsouradi wants you to know that the microclimate and the special local flora characterising Chios, create the conditions for unique products of excellent quality when it comes to aromatics and she can guarantee for the quality of her products.
