Domaine Florian – Epanomi
This week’s Meet Our Producers takes us to mainland Greece for a change. Today’s star is an awarded winery from the Epanomi region in Northern Greece, Domaine Florian.
The story of Domaine Florian is one that shows how the love of winemaking passes from generation to generation. The great-grandfather of the owner, was a winemaker in Germany and his grandson (the owner’s father) always wanted to also produce his own wine. As it turns out this passion for wine runs deep in the family as his great- grandson also followed the same path.
The winery focuses on traditional winemaking processes using the wine lees, a method which allows the cultivation of more aromas in the wine by the grapes themselves instead of adding aromatic yeasts. As this winery does not add fixers for the acidity or its taste the main focus is on the vineyard, where everything around the grape is done by hand with special care for optimal results.
For Domaine Florian sustainability and the protection of the environment are a strong priority. Almost all of the vines are certified organic, while the vine work which is done as said previously completely by hand allows for a low environmental impact winemaking process, which is in general a goal of the winery.
The people behind Domaine Florian want the consumer to know that when they pour their wine in the glass the aromas won’t disappear after a while but will keep them company as they enjoy the wine. A taste will be enough to convince you!
We are so happy to have such an environmentally sensible company as Domaine Florian in our network of producers!
