Meet Our Producers #7 – GLIGLIS Art Organic Oil

GLIGLIS Art Organic Oil is a single origin, certified organic olive oil from Lesbos. The olive oil comes from the Kolovi olive variety, which is indigenous to the island of Lesbos.

The man behind it all Grigoris Gliglis is a producer with a deeply ecological approach to his production methods and towards life in general. Coming to Lesbos from Athens, for a more peacefull way of living, he took over the many generations long family tradition of olive oil production and upgraded it to meet modern standards.

Apart from the oil being organic, all the production methods that go in the production of this olive oil are as eco-friendly as possible, either that means using only electric tools or transforming the organic material from prunin tο natural fertilizer.

Mr Gliglis, does not wish to “kill” his product by watering it regularly. Instead, the olives rely on the elements and grow naturally as they are watered two or even only once per year.

Another fascinating characteristic of this olive oil is that it contains more than 500 polyphenols a characteristic of olive oils in Lesbos. This number might mean more to you if you consider that the minimum polyphenol indicator level for a product to be considered pharmaceutical is 250!

Mr Gliglis does not wish to try to persuade the consumer with long sentences, as he says “one taste is enough” to realise the difference and the quality of this olive oil, and we could not agree more.
