Aristaios _ Kea island
We all carry memories of our grandparents that colour our lives regardless of age. The Mouzakis family gave these memories shelter, flavour and aroma by creating a holistic gastronomic and cultural undertaking in Milopotamos of Kea.
Orchards, olives, beehives, orange and almond trees were their grandfather’s legacy and traditional recipes their grandmother’s. No more was needed to go one step further and create a workshop and a store to host the wide variety of local products they produce.
Honey, dried almonds, spoon sweets, jams, local wine “Mavroudi”, traditional pasta, trahanas, pasteli, local herbs; and new recipes such as bars with honey, almonds and oats, figs, sun-dried tomatoes, capers and royal oak flour are produced with traditional processing methods in a workshop that meets all modern standards.
You can find all these products among other producers of the same philosophy in the “Aristaios” store, who according to mythology taught people the art of beekeeping, the cultivation of vines and olives and cheese-making.
For the aspiring visitors, the Mouzakis family has more surprises in store. Their great-grandparents house has been converted into the “Folklore Museum of Kea”, which is full of references and objects from the island’s traditional culture. They also organize events in the small amphitheatre they have built, such as the honey festival, and tours with electric bicycles to other local facilities, archaeological sites, old monasteries, windmills, and water mills.
By linking small local production with history, folklore, and the joy of exploration, Aristaios is sure to offer the most ecologically experiential journey of discovering authentic Kea.
