Sailing with SealGreece: Raising Awareness for the Monk Seals of the Aegean

This summer, Aegean Cargo Sailing is proud to continue its collaboration with SealGreece and the passionate Seal Squad. Together, we set out on a sailing journey across the Aegean, with one shared mission: to raise awareness for the endangered Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus).

The partnership brought a new dimension to our voyages. While our ships normally carry sustainable goods between islands, this time our captains also carried a message of conservation. Onboard, the Seal Squad joined our crew, turning each stop along the route into an opportunity to share knowledge about the fragile ecosystems of the Aegean and the urgent need to protect them.

Our captains guided the team through a series of islands, creating a route that was not only about sailing but also about storytelling. Every harbor, every bay, and every island community became a stage for conversations about monk seals—their habitats, the threats they face, and the ways we can all help safeguard their future.

From small island schools to local businesses and curious travelers at the ports, the response was inspiring. Many were hearing about the plight of the monk seals for the first time, and others felt encouraged to take action within their own communities.

The collaboration reminded us of the power of sail cargo: it is not only a sustainable way to move goods, but also a means of connecting people, ideas, and causes. By blending traditional sailing practices with modern conservation efforts, our journey became a moving classroom on the sea.

Together with SealGreece, we continue to prove that every voyage has the potential to make waves—both in the water and in the hearts of those we meet.
